Missoula's Putt & Pull : April 26, 2025
Missoula's Putt & Pull : April 26, 2025
When seeking donations to help raise funds to support individuals who have suffered while protecting our forests and homes, it feels like a small ask.
Each year our live and silent auctions feature fine art and jewelry, guided outings, culinary creations and events, custom built knives and one-of-a-kind pieces worthy of the highest bid. This is already a fine lineup, but we are always looking for more top-shelf work to even further entice our audience.
We achieve our goals through the assistance of generous donations and without these contributions, helping those in need wouldn't be possible.
If you're a small business or big corporation, individual studio creator, skilled crafts person, professional guide, chef...or have other amazing talents to offer, we'd love to hear from you.
We invite anyone who donates an item to the live or silent auction to come to the event, introduce themselves and share a bit about your work and the item you donated.
Don't miss your chance at winning one of the outstanding items, guided events or adventures available at this year's silent and live auction.
Available for bidding at our evening event,
April 26, 2025 at the Highlander - Missoula Brewing Co.

When these come out us Wildland firefighters know we’re about to have some fun.
This is a drawing of a drip torch, a tool that essentially drips fire and is used in a variety of operations in wild fire. Traditionally we are putting fire down along a controlled line and removing “fuels” between us and the main fire. It uses a combination of regular fuel and diesel fuel and the wick is ignited with a lighter.
I drew it on a CTR (Crew Time Report). This form is used for Crew bosses to manage and report hours worked on wildfire in order to make sure everyone gets paid!
The drawing was scanned and printed on canvas, is 16"x12" and framed in a wooden hanging frame style (top and bottom magnetic wood pieces and a hanging string.
Generously donated by: R1 Helitack
In the wildland, LCES stands for four important safety pillars, "Lookouts, Communication, Escape Routes, and Safety Zones. To helitack, it stands for "Locate Cooler, Establish Shade." But, without helitack personnel, more fires would escape into the countryside, and firefighters would have to do a heckuva lot
more hiking. Hats off, and mad respect to
our rotor wing specialists.

Generously donated by: The Navaro Family
This one’s certainly special, and ABSOLUTELY ONE-OF-A-KIND. There’s a great history behind this coat. Every firefighter in the west knows Tony Navarro. Tony started his career on the Wyoming IR Crew (before they were called Hotshots) and an institution at the Missoula Smokejumper Base. Tony’s Aunt Hattie Ware, a full-blooded Comanche crafted the coat from a Pendleton Smokey Bear blanket inspired by an organized crew of Mescalero Apache firefighters, whose assignment off the reservation was to battle the fire at Capitan Gap, New Mexico where the orphaned cub was found among the scorched trees. He became the living representative of Smokey Bear. The design of the Smokey Bear blanket is based on a Navajo pictorial, with sections of the blanket filled with Smokey’s friends – a fish, a deer, a butterfly, an Indian girl, and a boy in cowboy garb. Other images represent fire prevention, and the center space is occupied by Smokey. Aunt Hattie crafted the coat for Tony’s beloved Risa; she found the time even though she was known to run for the tornado shelter when a cloud would appear over her home in Apache, Oklahoma. Her hands were curled from a lifetime of gardening, beadwork, and sewing, and her craftsmanship shines in the traditional, crisp lines of this iconic showstopper. The coat and bearer are a perfect match – Risa Lange-Navarro has dropped the match prescribed fire operations across the country; she remains in retirement a tireless advocate for returning fire to its natural, necessary role in our amazing natural western landscape and she’s a community leader along the Frenchtown Face. We’re so happy to have custody of this lovely piece of western iconography and you’re gonna love this story-telling piece of apparel for years to come. It’s been made to be timeless. Learn a little about Risa https://scholarworks.umt.edu/collegeofforestry_oralhistory/16/

WFF Metal Flag – show your support for those who walk the thin red fireline drippin’ the torch or potato patchin’ the stump hole. This tells everyone in the office that your heart’s in the right place. The distressed but undaunted symbol of our nation emblazoned with the shield of the Foundation is a powerful pairing. If you know someone who is retiring – this is how you send them out. If you know someone who goes above and beyond for our sisses and bros, surprise them with this embellished with silver Sharpie signatures. This one has it all.

This bowl of Rocky Mountain Juniper started as a log washed up on the bank of the Blackfoot River. The artist cut, transported, and milled it by hand, trimming away the weathered grey exterior to reveal the beautiful grain beneath. It was then shaped and polished on the lathe over many hours, before a layer of linseed oil and three coats of natural shellac were applied.
Wildland firefighting is a professional of endurance, and this piece is an embodiment of that indomitable spirit. This piece is a survivor. The artist started the process of turning raw wood into a bowl several times, each time the piece shattering on the lathe before it was complete. This piece survived where most others did not, a representation of the enduring nature of wildland firefighters in a physical medium.
