Our “Never Forget” medallion conveys the idea that Justin Beebe, Trenton Johnson, and Brent Witham are firefighters who have fallen, but live on in our wildland family forever. Kara Johnson designed the medallion to include the seeds of regeneration associated with each man. Trenton Johnson grew up amongst the Ponderosa pines in Missoula; Justin Beebe tapped the sap of maple trees at his family’s cabin property in Bellows Falls, Vermont; Brent Witham was raised in the shadows of the mighty sequoias in California.
Wear this medallion in honor of our fallen and when you put it on, remember them, reflect on your own life, and reach out to friends and family to let them know how much they mean to you.

Justin served with the Lolo Hotshots and is remembered as a mountain man who loved fishing, hunting, and hiking. He knew how to live and love life and those he shared it with. Growing up in Vermont, he wanted so much to be a hotshot, so he took a road trip out west to meet with many wildland fire crews and left each of them with a can of his family’s homemade maple syrup so the superintendents would remember the “Vermonter.”
On his memorial medallion, designer Kara Johnson incorporated the seed of the hearty sugar maple, the state tree of Vermont, to reflect the timelessness of his legacy. Five years after his death, Justin lives on in our memories and the Lolo National Forest and greater Forest Service family will never forget his sacrifice.
Please take a long walk in the woods to honor him.

This medallion pays tribute to Brent Witham, who died fighting the Lolo Peak Fire on the Lolo National Forest on August 2, 2017.
Brent Witham served with the Vista Grande Hotshots, and is remembered as a skillful, courageous, and compassionate firefighter who came from a lineage of firefighters and was willing to do whatever it took to help others.
We honor Brent and his family when we take a moment to reflect. As you drive on state Highway 12 west of Lolo, look for a memorial highway sign dedicated to Brent.
Brent was born and raised in California and came to the Lolo in support of the 2017 fire season. On his memorial medallion, designer Kara Johnson incorporated the seed of the giant sequoia, the state tree of California, to reflect the timelessness of his legacy. Brent lives on in our memories and the Lolo National Forest and greater Forest Service family will never forget his sacrifice.
Their bravery is not measured in the flames they fought, but in the sacrifice they made, running toward danger to protect what others hold dear. Their courage stands as a testament to selflessness and honor.
